This desk lamp is an experimental build. I have always wanted to try something like this to see if it can work. I would say that it was relatively successful and might require a few teaks still. The parts are all laser cut from 3mm MDF (Medium Density Fibre Board).

It is light and was suitable material for easy experimentation. Neo magnets are fitted to the joins to hold the two arms together and also allow for articulation of the desk lamp. The idea was to make a desk lamp that can easily and smoothly be adjusted into the required position for your task.

The base was cast in concrete and provides weight to keep the desk lamp in position when performing adjustments. A short LED strip is used to produce light that spreads evenly on the surface and an inline dimmer allows adjustment of the brightness and serves as a on/off switch. The desk lamp can be powered by a simple 12 Volt 1 Amp power brick.
